My lax posting

I have been a little slack with this thing – not updating nearly as much as I should! But I confess there hasn’t been too much interesting to report!

Work is work…I like my new role a whole lot more and the team is so lovely. But I just don’t think I am cut out for 9-5 office work for the rest of my life. It’s just so inane! The corporate world is just like a playground; full of children fighting over toys and a whole lot of gameplaying. And I am just on the periphery of it as a lowly support staff member. Nevertheless, must never settle! I really am looking forward to doing that Interior Design course to see if it might be a viable career direction. Only time will tell! I pledge I will use my time in London to explore a lot of options, after all – life is short is it not?

In bad news, I think we have a dead rat in our wall. There is strange wafting smell that comes from near the couch, but it’s not in the couch, under the couch or on the couch. So it must be behind it in the wall! We used to have scrabbling sounds all night in the wall. Creepy little cretins! If there is one thing I REALLY don’t like the idea of, it’s RATS! And we have not heard our little scrabbling neighbour for some time. Thankfully, I don’t think the critter actually got into our living space as there is no sign of droppings or nibbled food. But just the thought of it gave me bad dreams on two separate occasions. So I’ve bought an Oust fragrance plug to try and mask the smell. Too bad there isn’t a device I can buy that will mask my creeps at the thought!

In other news, there is this terrible busker at Liverpool Street Station. All he does is whistle REALLY LOUDLY some indiscernable ”tunes”. And he’s blind. Now, I want to know, does it make me an absolutely evil person to think that, even if he is blind, his high pitched and out of tune whistling is the last thing anyone wants to hear as they jostle the crowds in the 18:07pm rush home, so he should therefore be removed??? Removed in the sense that he should not play there anymore, not removed in the sense that…well, you know….”removed”.

Actually that whole space seems to be the bedrock of bad busking in London. Not only does our whistler friend engage in egregious noise pollution there, but as does a wailing feminist alterna-artist, an ageing accordion-basher and some guy who plays something resembling music on a yellow plastic bucket. Is it just me? Or is mediocrity becoming the order of the day? In the rush for society to be “inclusive”, does it mean our standards as to what constitutes ‘greatness’ are beginning to fall? The fact that someone ‘has a go’ seems to be more lauded than true genius or mastery.

Heavens, I don’t wish to sound elitist. I just get very confused about my views sometimes. On one hand, I hate the ‘establishment’, the hyper-consumerist society we appear to live in and the endless competition for status. But I equally hate ultra-PC types who think that nannying people’s lives and ‘tweaking’ society through iniatives, fact finding missions and blah, blah, blah will make the world a better place.

Anyways, enough of my rant for the minute! Back to normal things – Tom has three friends coming over tomorrow as he is off to the football to watch PSV play Tottenham Spurs tomorrow night. So a girly night in is in order! One thing I miss over here is having my girlfriends. I love spending time with Tom and get along so well with heaps of people at work, but I haven’t really been in London long enough to forge links with a close knit group of friends. It comes with time though I suppose!

Hmmm, what else? Oh I’ve agreed to do 101 things in 1001 with Lulu so look for an upcoming list to prompt me forth into action! Will link to that – maybe tomorrow – as I will be all dressed down, at home, with nothing to do!

 ,

xxx
